Matthew -12 WEEK SERIES
Big Idea of the Series: This twelve-week sermon series guide looks at the first half of the Gospel of Matthew. These messages examine the broader themes in Matthew like God’s character, Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament’s promises for a Messiah, and the importance of internal integrity over external behavior. Laying out practical application points like the need for salvation, baptism, and repentance, this sermon series provides the groundwork for a clear explanation of the Gospel. Week 1 – FEBRUARY 4TH
Text: Matthew 1:17–25
Topic: Prophecy, God’s Faithfulness
Big Idea of the Message: Jesus is the Messiah promised to us in the Old Testament.
Application Point: We can trust God to be faithful to fulfill his promises to deliver us.
Week 2 – FEBRUARY 11TH - PASTOR DAVE
Text: Matthew 2:1–23
Topic: Guidance, God’s Sovereignty
Big Idea of the Message: Only God could have orchestrated the details of Jesus’s early life, fulfilling every prophecy about his origins.
Application Point: If we obey God simply and immediately, we will be able to see his sovereign purposes unfold around us.

Big Idea of the Message: Jesus was baptized to make a public statement that his life was dedicated to God and his purposes.
Application Point: We should follow Jesus in baptism as an outward expression of an inward decision to live for him.

Big Idea of the Message: Jesus overcame temptation through his relationship with the Father by relying on his Word.
Application Point: We must be intimately familiar with the Bible to recognize and have victory over the Evil One.

Topic: Salvation, Righteousness
Big Idea of the Message: Jesus pointed to our need for a Savior by emphasizing how application of the law was about internal transformation rather than merely external compliance.
Application Point: We can never achieve right relationship with God apart from Jesus dwelling inside us through the Holy Spirit.
